From May 5-7, GraceWorks will be participating in two giving events with the donations made going toward helping families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Giving to GraceWorks during these events not only helps us meet our goals, but increases our chances of winning grants and prize money as well!
On Tuesday, May 5, #GivingTuesdayNow is having a special global day of giving as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. Annually, #GivingTuesday has only been held the Tuesday after Black Friday.
On Wednesday, May 6, and Thursday, May 7, is The Big Payback, presented by The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. This 24-hour giving event has raised nearly $17 million the last six years with nearly 1000 area nonprofits participating this year.
Your giving will help us continue to serve the extreme increases of demand we are seeing:
- Currently, GraceWorks is seeing more than double, and sometimes triple, the demand for food. Before March 15, GraceWorks provided food, on average, for 37 families in a seven-hour day. Since the pandemic onset, GraceWorks has served up to 140+ families a day in three-hour sessions. A recent mobile food pantry in Fairview drew a record-breaking 292 families, up from an average 175 families.
- Rent and utility assistance requests have also doubled – from 30 requests a month for help to 60 requests a month.
- About 60% of families asking for food have never been to GraceWorks for help before. We anticipate it will take months for many GraceWorks serves to climb out of debt.
We ask for you to join GraceWorks in helping provide food along with shelter and utility assistance to families impacted by COVID-19 by making a donation during these donation events. Every donation made up to a total of $25,000 will be matched by the estate of Jean Bell Delffs!
